This project evaluates the pilot of the Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service’s (IAMS) Healthy Deadly Kids (HDK) program, a culturally safe school-based health education initiative designed to improve the health and wellbeing of Indigenous children.

Indigenous children face significant health disparities compared to non-Indigenous children. Early intervention through culturally appropriate programs is crucial to address these disparities. The HDK program aims to empower Indigenous students to make healthy choices and improve their overall wellbeing.

Project aims:

  • Assess the program’s effectiveness in improving health outcomes, educational achievements, and community engagement among Indigenous children.
  • Evaluate the program’s impact on various aspects of student health and well-being, including health literacy, physical activity, and school attendance.
  • Enhance the capacity of the Indigenous workforce involved in the program.
  • Generate valuable insights for program refinement and expansion.
