Culturally Responsive Trauma Informed Practice (CRTIP) through the lens of local Aboriginal communities: developing approaches to health care assessments and workforce development that make cultural sense
This research addresses a critical need to ensure that healthcare services are delivered in ways that are responsive to local Aboriginal cultures in the Northern Territory. Building on research conducted in Central Australia from 2017-2021, this project addresses the need for ongoing integration of Aboriginal knowledge systems and language in training and professional development that promotes narrative approaches to supporting social and emotional wellbeing.
Through a community-led generative research approach, place-based cultural understandings of wellness, wellbeing, yarning, storytelling, and healing, will be integrated into training and professional development materials, and will form the basis for developing a social and emotional wellbeing assessment tool/process in the Katherine East region of the Northern Territory.
