On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff at Lowitja Institute, we offer our sincerest condolences to the Fagan, Singleton and Malcolm families, along with the broader community of Yarrabah, for the recent passing of Mr Cleveland Fagan.

Cleveland will be remembered fondly for his time at the Apunipima Cape York Health Council, QAIHC and the Yarrabah Leaders Forum, all of which had touchpoints with the work of Lowitja Institute.

Cleveland was a well-considered leader who often went above and beyond expectations to support improving the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities he served.

One of his most significant achievements was overseeing the growth and maturity of the Apunipima Cape York Health Council to what it is today, and realising the transition of health services from government-run to community-designed and led.

Cleveland’s legacy will continue for many years into the future to ensure better outcomes for his people and communities across Cape York, Yarrabah and throughout Queensland.

Mr Selwyn Button, Chairperson Lowitja Institute
