We are excited to announce that six students have been awarded a 2024 Lowitja Institute Scholarship, contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership of health research by providing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to develop their skills.

A Lowitja Institute Certificate IV and Graduate Certificate Scholarship (valued up to $15,000) has been awarded to Ms Adrienne Lipscomb (VIC), who is undertaking Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Trauma and Recovery Practice, University of Wollongong.

The following five students will receive a Lowitja Institute Higher Degree Research Top-Up Scholarship (valued up to $10,000 per annum for a maximum duration of three years):

  • Ms Elizabeth Bourke (NSW), Flinders University, College of Medicine and Public Health
  • Mr Justin Wilkey (VIC), University of Melbourne, Faculty of Education
  • Miss Khwanruethai Ngampromwongse (QLD), The University of Queensland, Faculty of Medicine
  • Mrs Michelle Gissara (VIC), RMIT University, School of Global, Urban and Social Studies
  • Ms Karina Maxwell (QLD), The University of Queensland, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work

‘Scholarships are a key component of Lowitja Institute’s activity is to grow the talent based in our communities by creating pathways into the health research sector,’ Lowitja Institute CEO Paul Stewart said.

‘Congratulations to the six individuals who have been awarded a Lowitja Institute scholarship as part of this year’s cohort. We wish all our scholars all the very best with their studies, and we look forward to our scholars graduating and applying their skills in the workforce.’
